Introducing Big Willie M AKA William MyersWilliam Myers graced us with his presence on 10/3/1976. His parents were Kim Myers and Steven Trane. William was a big child, often much bigger than kids his own age. This size difference caused William to be caused "Big Willie". William hated this name. He would often run home crying from school after being teased. On his 12th birthday, something amazing began to happen to William. He began to get tall. He was still overweight though. One of his older friends talked William into working out. This was just what William needed. He began to lose weight and trim down. William's friend talked William into playing basketball at a local court. William liked the game. By William's 15th birthday, he was 6 feet 7 inches tall and weighed 212 pounds. "Big Willie" now truly deserved the name. The Change of William MyersDuring the fall of 1991, William lost his grandmother whom he lived with. Williams was very distraught by his grandmother's death. He had to go live with his mother. She was living with an African-American man who lived in the heart of Absanie, a predominantly African-American city. William began to regain the weight that he had lost. By Christmas of 1991, William had gained 100 pounds. He no longer wanted to play basketball. William's mother's boyfriend, Karl Davis, saw how tall and big William was and asked him if he played basketball. William told Karl yes. After some coaxing, William began working out and playing ball again. With Karl's help, William became twice as good as he was before his grandmother's death. William played with the African-American boys in the neighborhood. Someone could always be heard yelling, "Y'all lying. That ain't no white boy playing ball like that!" William met and became friends with a neighborhood hustler named "Much Game." Much Game was called by that nickname because that's all he had ever done was ran much game. Much Game and William began hustling basketball games in Absanie. That didn't last long because word spread fast about the big white boy who played ball like he was black. The two young men continued to hustle games in Absanie and neighboring cities until the two young men had a falling out with each other over money. William's sophomore year in high school. He began to play organized basketball. This was hard for William because he was use to playing street ball. William fouled out of his first 10 games in his high school games. William's coach began to work with him. By the time the next season rolled around, William was a much better player. The Maturing of William MyersAfter graduating from high school, William attended Houser University in Dorinda. He started all four years of his college career. William was an exciting player to watch. He often showed off during his college career. Most of his opponents would move out of the way when they saw him coming down the lane. During this time of his life, his birth father, Steven Trane entered his life. This was a trying time for William because his birth father wanted William to leave his mother and stepfather to go live with him in Donnet. William and Karl were not obliging. This caused more confusion in William's life. His game began to suffer. After six months and a court decision, Steven walked out of William's life for good. The Professional Big Willie M AKA William MyersWilliam was selected number six by the Tarleton Arms Warriors in 1998 after he graduated college. Everyone was excited about Big Willie M. William's professional career has been as exciting as his college career. He is the best three-point shooting center in the league. He is still showing off, shaking backboards and breaking them, five to date. William has achieved a number of awards in his professional career. He was named to the All League First Team three years in a row. He was named Rookie of the Year in 1998. He won back to back MVP awards in 1998 and 1999. |
